The
Body at Ease
Based
on the principles of movement pioneers Rudolph Laban and Irmgard
Bartenieff, this gentle yet enlivening class encourages ease
and efficiency of movement through developmentally based principles
and exercises that begin lying down and gradually progress to
standing and moving through space.
The
Body in Motion
Release
into gravity, engage your core, and find your power moving through
space and standing still. Drawing from modern dance, yoga and
pedestrian movement, this class explores various exercises and
sequences that engage the body in an active dialogue with gravity,
dynamic alignment, breath support, and qualitative movement.
The whole person is emphasized as we acknowledge that virtuosity
exists in many forms, including the simple yet powerful act
of bringing oneself to the movement as fully as possible in
the present moment.
The
Spontaneous Body
Improvisation
occurs all around us in daily life and we are constantly “winging
it” both internally and externally from one moment to the next.
This class taps into the spontaneous mind and the playful body
in a series of improvisation structures that focus on relationships
to time, shape space, dynamics, self and one another as the
imagination runs wild. Find and follow your impulse, and focus
your intention both as an individual and in a group. Emphasis
is placed on discovering form and meaning from the body's wisdom
and by paying attention to the world around us, and shaping
unplanned movement into a committed reality, in both studio
exploration and performance.
The
Energetic Body
Reiki
is a Japanese-based natural form of relaxation and healing that
taps into life-energy through a simple hands-on technique. This
class introduces the history of reiki, some of the basic principles
and hand positions, and work in pairs to encourage relaxation
and inner calm.
