Katwa Ngoma (he/him) was born and raised predominantly in Nairobi, Kenya and moved to Winona, MN in 2007. He initially participated in several cultural engagements conducting African drumming workshops in 2015-2016 that spearheaded his involvement in artistic events in the community. Katwa teamed up with other members of different backgrounds residing in the Winona area and hosts an open and free drumming gathering, currently meeting weekly. He enjoys spending time outdoors with his daughter, and finding an activity like drumming enables him to connect with his community and also his ancestral background. This symbiotic relationship has brought together our community members of all ages and all walks of life to express themselves through sound and movement.
Sharon Mansur (she/her) is a SWANA/Arab American dance and interdisciplinary experimental
artist, educator, curator, and community mover and shaker based in Winona, MN, Dakota land. She loves creating artistic opportunities for people to connect and engage. Sharon is currently the director of The Cedar Tree Project, amplifying regional, national and international creative voicesfrom the SWANA/Arab diaspora, and curator of SHIFT~ performance salons.
