In January 2023 Sharon will be attending the pilot program of a BIPOC Artist Residency at Lanesboro Arts Center in Lanesboro, MN.
In January Sharon is excited to start research on tracings, a new project focused on walking as a creative art, made possible by the generous support of a Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council Advancing Artist grant.
During summer/fall 2022 Sharon was selected to participate in a Creative Community Leadership Institute, an intensive cohort-based training program to deepen impact in creative community building, presented by Springboard for the Arts and Racing Magpie.
Sharon was awarded Minnesota State Arts Board Creative Support for Individuals grants in 2021 and 2022 to support the continued curation of her Winona based SHIFT~ performance salons.
Sharon was honored to have been awarded a 2021-2022 Springboard for the Arts Creative Economy Fellowship for BIPOC artists in Minnesota, recognizing artists who make and share tools, resources and opportunities for other artists, "with the belief that interconnected communities of artists create greater impact and and substantial system-wide change."
During 2021-2022 1001 Arab Futures dance film was screened at the: Arab Film Festival presented by the Arab American National Museum (Michigan), Frozen River Film Festival (Minnesota), and the Midwest RADFest Alternative Dance Festival (Michigan).
The 1001 Arab Futures dance film premiered in September 2021 The Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts, in Minneapolis, presented in the SOLO: evening McKnight Foundation's 2018 & 2019 Dance Fellows. The Minnesota State Arts Board awarded Sharon a 2020 Cultural Community Partnership grant, with the Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA), to support the creation of 1001 Arab Futures; a collaborative dance performance and visual installation with Arab/Arab American/SWANA artists and co-directors: Yara Boustany (Lebanon), Andrea Shaker (Minneapolis), and Mette Loulou von Kohl (New York City) performed in June 2021 outdoors at MCA and online. Sharon received a Winona Fine Arts Commission grant to share her dance film ...in the space between via an outdoor screening/installation in Fall 2020 at Dine Out Downtown in 3rd Street storefront windows at: Blooming Grounds, Green Thumb Artistry, Yarnology and ORNO Gift + Home.
Sharon was honored to have been a 2019-2020 Creative Community Fellow through National Arts Strategies. She joined an amazing cohort of twenty five outstanding fellows from all over the U.S., engaging together in training and network building towards transformative community centered actions in arts and culture. They met in Vermont in October 2019 and then converged again in California in late February 2020.
Sharon's dance film work variation on residue and INSERT[coda] HERE, in collaboration with video artist Brian Harris, was featured in the 2018 WomenCinemakers Biennale online magazine.
Sharon was named a 2018-2019 McKnight Foundation Dancer Fellow. The Fellowship included a SOLO commission which was developed during 2019-2021 in collaboration with co-directors Yara Boustany (Lebanon), Andrea Shaker (Minneapolis) & Mette Loulou von Kohl (NYC). 1001 Arab Futures live site-specific performance premiered in June 2021 in Keoxa/Winona, MN and the dance film version in September 2021 at the Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts in Minneapolis, MN.
Sharon was thrilled to visit Lebanon for the first time in Spring 2018, invited by Professor Nadra Assaf to participate as a guest artist in the International Dance Day Festival Lebanon in Byblos and Beirut, Lebanon. In addition she ate excellent Lebanese cuisine, spent time by the Mediterranean Sea, and befriended many Lebanese cats.
